This was a weird one for me and I don’t really know what to think of it. This book was pretty depressing the whole way through. The topics covered ended up being pretty deep. The tone was also very one note, no one character had voice or emotion, it was all the same.
I knew the premise going in but I didn’t realize just how long that scenario was going to last.
Basically the entire book is the MMC reading the FMC and her best friend’s emails to each other. And when he reveals it at the end of the book there are no consequences other than he gets the girl. She is not upset or freaked out by his behavior much at all. (Granted she lightly stalked him as well which was also not great. ) They don’t even meet until maybe 20ish pages to the end. I didn’t find it cute when they did finally get together. I just felt weird.

I enjoyed the female friendship at moments and wanted more of them and way less of Lincoln but he was the one we followed for most of the book.
Some of the things Beth says to Jennifer is the wake of her miscarriage made me very upset. It was hard to read and I would not have forgiven her as quickly as Jennifer did.

The 90’s setting was a little jarring at times but interesting too.
I have read a few books by the author and enjoyed those but this was not for me.

I should’ve stoped when Lincoln’s sister used the re****ed word unironically. Did I? Nope I decided to read a couple more chapters after that.

The use of the above word wasn’t the only thing wrong with this novel. The two women read more like teen girls than women in their late twenties. And we’re supposed to cheer for Lincoln to have a happily ever after even though he’s going absolutely no where in the book and keeps focusing on his high school girlfriend!! Also why do people continue to write stalking as romantic?!? Can we stop it, please? It weird and disturbing and how it was written has the reader in the role of Lincoln, reading the emails. I feel like I need a shower.

I looked up the publication date and am still shocked this was written in 2011 and not in the early 2000s!

I dnf'd this book twice and came back a third time to finally finish it. I'm glad I've read another of Rowell's books because I did genuinely enjoy elanor and park and would be open to reading other books by Rowell. This one was just a miss, and the slowest of burns. It was kind of interesting reading a book set in the 90s though so that was different.

Vacation book #2
I'm trying to finish off books I've owned for more than a decade but never actually read.
Honestly i just didn't vibe with it. I found the main character creepy and I'm really over these love at first sight stories. Especially when it's not followed by "and now we have to actually work on our relationshil" but is rather the "love at first sight will make me ignore all the 🚩🚩🚩"
I get that this is rainbow's first book but jeez I'd rather not
