A very fun, easy read. Definitely more creative and creepy (in a kind of delightful way) than the movie. But I think I struggled with how mean/harsh Mary Poppins and other characters are, especially to the children, which whenever it occurred kind of pulled me out of the story because it felt jarring and irritating. Still would recommend

Of course it is different then the movie. But it also reminded me of the classics like Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. The Winnie the Pooh series (I remember reading once in a book years ago while doing research) was considered the last in the "outstanding children literature tradition" of being whisked away on a magical journey in and with real innocence. But I would add Mary Poppins to be considered for this role too.

Magic is in the air!

Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers is a beautiful and enchanting story that will sweep you off your feet!

It tells the story of Mary Poppins, an enchanting but strict and fussy lady, who takes Jane and Michael into an enchanted world of talking animals, laughing gas (that brings you into the air) and magical gingerbreads..

I haven't seen the Disney movie but I know that there is this 'famous song/sentence' in it BUT it actually didn't appear in the book.

Although I watched the 'new' movie with Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks in "Saving Mr Banks", which is about the author P.L Travers and I really enjoyed it.

It's the season for getting around to books I've been meaning to read for ever. Super charming as expected, full of some truly delightful imagery. Great vibes

I will stick with Disney's version of this character. But thankful for PL Travers coming up with Mary Poppins and the incredibly unbelievable adventures she was able to take the Banks children on. Without it we wouldn't have Disney's fun version!
