FIRST LINE REVIEW: “As I walked through the wilderness of this world, I lighted on a certain place where was a Den, and I laid me down in that place to sleep: and, as I slept, I dreamed a dream.” And for the next 175 pages or so, the dream is shared with the reader. Impressive as a 17th century work of religious literature, telling through allegory the tale of Pilgrim on his travels to the City of God. Much like the Morality play, “Everyman,” all characters are allegorical and the purpose is a sermon about the pathway to heaven. I wouldn’t call it a particularly compelling read, though I did appreciate it as a work of historical literature.

I have to confess, this is one of the rare books that's made it onto my 'did not finish' pile... It's not really through any major fault in the book; I just found that as I was reading it I was painfully conscious that I was not getting anything of value out of the experience. With my bookshelves groaning with all the books I've acquired over the years and not yet read, I just couldn't bring myself to commit any more time to finishing this one. The tale is too heavy-handed of an allegory to be enjoyable just for reading's sake, and I'm not interested enough in its evangelical angle to get much from from that aspect of it.

I personally didn't enjoy this book.
the style of writing is old classic style which can be show and boring in some classic books.
I suspect someone religious beliefs may get more out of this book.
you will need a bucketful of perseverance to get through to the end.

I understand the importance of this work and it’s ability to stand the test of time, but I had a really hard time engaging the text and keeping up with the characters. I listened to this book as the audio version to meet a deadline for one of my Bible studies. I look forward to my next reading when I can devote more time and take notes on the many allegories included here.

For any intelligent human being who have realized the logical flaws in Christianity as a whole, this piece of garbage is very obviously as hypocritical and favoritism-based as the religion it is based on.
Yes, because Ignorance really wants to be a good guy but he doesn't know how to word it properly, he deserves to suffer for THE REST OF ETERNITY.
This book makes me ashamed that human beings were ever this stupid and evil minded.
