Another riveting installment. This one centered around the possible discovery of King Arthur’s bones and the shocking revelation surrounding them. It posited an interesting theory that would have the conservatives, neo-Nazis, and Trump supporters of the world up in arms. Consequently, it isn’t surprising the discovery is met with a couple of murders, a child being threatened to be thrown to her death, and more than few death threats before it is resolved.
As usual, the familiar elements are all here—painstaking historical research matched with a lot of Druid mysticism, the tension between Ruth and Nelson over their future with their baby girl Kate, and the weird sense that dysfunction is just standard operating procedure when it comes to Norfolk.

Spoiler
Disconnected thoughts about this book:1. The audiobook reader was good until she did this horrible, screeching high-pitched voice for a toddler character. And then kept doing it at random intervals like jump scares.
2. The King Arthur mythology was interesting! Turning it into white supremacy was also interesting! I think!
3. The author is obsessed with making anti-fat jokes & commenting on people's weight, in the style of Bridget Jones commentary that wasn't even funny then.
4. A major character almost dies by falling off a roller coaster. AS IF I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH SCARY SCENARIOS GOING THROUGH MY HEAD.
6. The author repeats an exact plot arc from previous books with different characters. It's so similar that it's weird an editor let it happen?
7. I will continue to read this series even though I feel mad about it half the time.
Graphic: Body shaming, Infidelity, Antisemitism, and Fatphobia
Moderate: Suicide, Murder, and Toxic relationship

I mostly liked it. However the present tense writing is somewhat hard to read.

I really loved the character of Nelson but to be honest I really felt his arrogance and masogony over Ruth and his daughter in this one, his insistence to pronounce her name correctly as Kate is also somewhat frustrating to, he needs to choose not make Ruth feel bad for his life choices!
