I really enjoyed this essay and the follow-up from 30 years later. Nochlin makes some really interesting points and I’m happy to have even more 70s era feminist texts under my belt

I can see the impact this slim essay would have had fifty years ago and appreciated much of what Nochlin discussed and argued for. I just wanted there to be more to it. Nothing especially new here, just a deeper dive into things I was mostly already familiar with.
The fault, dear brothers, lies not in our stars, our hormones, our menstrual cycles or our empty internal spaces, but in our institutions and our education—education understood to include everything that happens to us from the moment we enter this world of meaningful symbols, signs and signals.

[F]eminist art history is there to make trouble.
