✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨ Educated by Tara Westover
“Westover’s upbringing was unconventional, to say the least. Forbidden from attending school, doctor’s appointments, or almost any activity except for church, Westover passed her days working in a junkyard with her father and learning herbal remedies from her mother. Her parents’ extreme religious beliefs and distrust of outside influences provided the perfect environment for Westover’s older brother to physically and emotionally abuse her. Educated is the story of how Westover was able to overcome the pain of this abuse and her own negative feelings about herself woven together with the story of her path through higher education.”

This book was eye-opening. To think that such things are happening in the U.S., not far from where I live, and not too long ago is crazy. Tara’s story is inspirational, and the fact that she comes so far from so little makes me feel like I am throwing away my life. She’s out there getting herself an education and I’m sitting and reading for hours on end. I loved this, and it had me on the edge of my seat. I’m sure my classmates enjoyed my very frantic facial expressions while I read this during a science video.

Couldn't stay engaged; got a bit too upset listening to the descriptions of abuse and bodily injuries
