The pacing of this book was the main hangup for me, but it was still really great!!

An easy read, that started off strong and then felt like it had unnecessary plot. Loved the magical realism as well as the family dynamics in the book. Made it more relatable to me as a Latine person. Each family member has a unique role and they’re forced to come together to unravel some family secrets. All while stepping into their own power.

I thought this book was really good at juggling the multiple main characters, as well as switching between the different timelines.

It's impossible to go wrong with Zoraida Córdova, her writing is beautiful and the story is compelling and interesting. This is a story about family and the secrets we keep to keep ours safe.
The ending leaves some questions unanswered
Spoilerparticularly did the star just leave them with their power? How did he leave without most of his power?
Spoiler. This book is almost a 5 star.

A beautiful and lyrical story about family generational trauma, an unfolding mystery, a bit of magical realism. Although this was beautifully written, I sometimes had a tough time following the story. So many characters are introduced it's hard to distinguish them. The story also was a bit slow for my taste. Overall I enjoyed it.
