Truly an amazing book, and one that I think every American should read. It sheds light on some incredibly important topics, and just completely changes a typical understanding of US history. It's probably one of my favorite books.

This book provides insight on factual inaccuracies and addresses the Anglocentralism and blind nationalism that serve as the foundation for so many high school history textbooks. Honestly, it's thought-provoking, but I found it to be written as dryly as the textbooks that it critiques.

The. Struggle.

Was. Real. This was painful in some parts, but really great in others. Just felt like it was a bit wordy and redundant, but otherwise, really informative.

I read the second edition via audio book--which suffers some from the narrative voice of the author (figurative) and self-reflection laced throughout. I'd recommend -not- going with the audio book version on this one.

This book was so enlightening on why children dislike history and how we should update our thinking of how to change the way we present history to children.

Most of my liberal friends love this book; most conservatives hate it. So that explains the divergent views in large part.

I found a lot of the book to be very interesting, some left me questioning, some made sense, and some I found to be very repetitive and that’s why I rated it a three. I feel it could have used an editorial cut and also most people read the introduction right? Because a lot of it was repeated almost verbatim.

Interesting read and raises a lot of good points.

I bought this book, because I thought it would be interesting to see which topics were covered as being whitewashed or spun to fit a certain narrative. When I got into college to start my history degree, I began to see how many things were told in half truths. I found this book to be quite disappointing. I had no problems with the research or the writing style, it was specifically the material and explanations. I hate to say that I would not recommend this book.

I would have given it 4.5 starts if possible. An excellent book - not a quick read but very informative and interesting. Learned a lot about US history (I am not American), but can see many parallels in Canada, particularly in how Indigenous people are represented.
