I absolutely adored the perfect chemistry books, so I thought this would be another great read. However, the two leads irritated me so much, especially Ashtyn, and I felt no chemistry between them at all. Hopefully the sequel will expand on this bland pairing and make them more exciting.

I rated this 4.5 stars only because I think it would have been better suited written in third person instead of jumping between Derek and Ashtyn’s first person accounts. Some chapters were barely even two pages long, just to show a reaction or thought without backtracking too far into the story. Some books work well with doing a perspective per chapter, but I personally thought this one didn’t need it, and it ruined the overall execution of the novel.

Story wise? That thing was fucking fantabulous! A girl plays a 'boys' sport, looking for affection because everyone she knows leaves her, and a rich boy who’s lost everyone close to him, refuses to let people near, and gives up all he loves as his own punishment for not being there when his mother dies.

Firstly, Derek’s Grandmother, starts off looking like a snobby bitch thanks to Dereks misjudgement, but what we find actually is a loving Grandmother, who secretly went to all his games when he was at Football Camp and saved a letter Derek’s mother sent her before she died. While she has her own brand of love, she is a little snobby, but she really does try to make things right for Derek.

Basically, he ignores her after his mothers death, gives away the money she sends him and does everything himself – like building things and mowing the lawn without being asked etc. He’s a right little handy man.

Meanwhile, Ashtyn’s life is on the rocks. Her boyfriend Landon is a toss, cheating on her, and leaving the team when Ashtyn is made Captain, even though he’s their only chance to go to state, therefore bringing scouts to see the team play, and not only giving Ashtyn, but their team members who treat her like a younger sister, a chance for a scholarship to play College Football once High School is over. He’s selfish, and thinks his shit don’t stink. He’s probably what someone of Derek’s proper social standing would be. He’s a football celebrity's kid, and goes clubbing and drinking, and does whatever he wants. He is definitely on my shit list. Definitely.

While Ashtyn is bloody clueless, Derek makes up for it in his absolute adorableness. I’m not going to ruin the story and explain the ending. But its a total Hollywood Teen Movie ending. And its abso-freaking-lutely ADORBS. Oh yeah, gives you the giggles when a guy is that sweet. If only my fiance was like that…. Or not, I’d probably die of embarrassment from being a spectacle and all the nice mushy stuff and kill him on my way out with a heavy object to the head….

But in the end, its a very good teen read, for anyone who likes that thing, you’ll like this. – I really hate putting an age on things now that I’m not a teen, because I get offended a little that it’s rated for 14-17 year olds when I’ll probably still like this kind of thing when I’m 80 and in my rocking chair surrounded by my ungrateful little grand babies and their pain in the ass parents…. Yeah, I can see my life already…

A fun, quick read. It has all my favorite kind of YA contemporary ingredients: high school drama, great romance (and a very steamy one in this case), family drama, likeable MCs and it even has a road trip. It doesn't really take on any heavy issues and it was just a light read. Full review to come.

Let me first start off with the fact that I am not a football fan at all, so I was very reluctant to read this. I actually hated all the football players in high school, or anyone else who was considered 'popular'.

However, Simone has this divine talent to get me to adore all her teenage angst. This book had pretty much every element I adore in my young adult fiction. Every character I adored, right down to the dippy step-mother. She was dippy but she was endearing. Ashtyn was an amazing lead female that was smart, strong, and stood up to the dynamics that were tossed at her as a high school female that plays footballs.

Her ex-boyfriend situation was hard for me to stomach but I understand her reactions to everything. I loved Derek from the start and I was totally routing for him and Ashtyn right off the bat. It is very hard for me to express myself in this review because there wasn't any part of it that bothered me. The flow of the book was perfect and kept you engaged from beginning to end. The rise and fall in the drama left the reader both happy and ugly crying when the you know what really hit the fan.

If you love young adult fiction, and are a fan of Abbi Glines then I highly recommend this book!

This book was amazing. I loved Derek and his careless ways and his hardships with loss of her mother and Ashtyn's emotional struggle is so real. The finale is so lovely and I love how they end up together!
