there were a couple things about this that i didn’t fancy.

perhaps it was intentional, but it felt as though the plot was very short, compared to the book itself. also, there had to be these extra moments in the book just to fill the space so the plot wasn’t totally exhausted till that last page. secondly, (maybe also intentional) but literally every event was predictable, down to the last page.

other than that, the characters didn’t really stick with me in anyway, i felt like they didn’t have much depth and their personalities were vaguely explained.
i however liked the simplicity of v.e. schwab’s writing and use of time jumps. that being said, although i likely won’t finish the duology, vicious wasn’t bad, it was just okay.

This book left me thinking about it for days and a date to pickup the sequel the day after finishing it.

I read Addie LaRue first, and while I enjoyed it, it did not sweep me off my feet they way it seemed to for so many other readings. I was intrigued by her other, seemingly darker, books but was left with little to no drive to seek out her other stories. But oh man, did this book change that for me. The story was dark and unique and so easy to get through. There was intrigue from the very first line, all building up to a stunningly impactful climax, and an ending that promises a sequel that is not to be missed.

sydney and dol CARRIED! mixed up victor and eli’s hair colors for the ENTIRE book and didn’t notice until the last few chapters. only one or two awkward transitions or unnecessary moments; nothing crazy or unusual.
Spoilereli’s self harm scene was very poor in taste and could’ve been written better. a let down on schwab’s part.

Wonderfully story and a great book to start the new year with. I really enjoyed reading about Victor, Mitch, Sydney, and Eli. The relationships
Spoiler the trio built are great. The fact safe for Sydney is Victor is too pure. She sees him as someone who can care for her despite his ability to cause her and those around them pain.
I loved the story concept and the tie in of how biology/pathophysiology could ultimately lead to giving humans powers to become EOs. Whenever science can be incorporated and make some plausible sense, I’m here for it.

Wow, what a ride. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I was hooked from beginning to end. The characters & plot were believable & pacing was perfect. I found myself enthralled near the end as things were coming to a head; my heart racing. I highly recommend this read.
