I mean, it’s based on Persuasion, my fave Jane Austen. But then it’s like if I were Indian and wrote a Mary Sue bc the parallels are devastatingly familiar. So…ymmv but I need some restorative chai rn.

(free review copy) I LOVED this one! The romance, the mother-daughter relationship story arc, the FOOD, the cooking show - all of it. I actually liked it better than the first in the series and can't wait to read more about the Raje family!

I left this with a lot of mixed feelings. The characters were well-developed with lots of back story and I wanted to know more. With that said, I found it exceptionally frustrating that we kept seeing all of that back story and the main characters weren't communicating it to each other. I suppose that was because it was trying to follow a Persuasion-esque plot line, but yet, the plot would have been more engaging if they'd just started opening open sooner. I did appreciate the Bay Area setting and the serious discussion of issues the characters faced, but found their leap into spilling all their secrets at the end to be not so compelling.

Cooking/foodie books are not really my bag. Still, this one was kind of cute.

This book made me feel feral. They’re so in love the whole time and they just have to get past anger to communicate. Still got the half against half hope line, and thank fuck.

Do not judge this book by its cover or synopsis. It's not a cute romance.

A good chunk of the book is written from the MC's mother's POV. There's a tremendous amount of toxic family dynamics that are a huge part of the book but are not mentioned in the summary. From the ~1/3 I read, the emotional neglect and at times abuse within the MC's family is handled poorly.

This book couldn't decide if it wanted to be a romance or a family saga about intergenerational trauma and I quit when I got tried of yelling at the book to get the MC a therapist.
