Another outstanding addition to the diviners series <3

Ill admit i had to slog through a few parts to get through this one, much more than the previous 2 books. I would chalk it up to a pacing issue, but idk in what way specifically since each character got to have their time to shine and built on their arcs over the series. I think a few of the interactions between some characters felt a bit unnatural, like they arent close enough to act like they are, which is particular to henry and ling who were so central to the previous book so the loss is a bit more shocking.

I loved how bray characterized mabel as a complex young girl who was struggling to find her place in the world, despite what i might say about how she approached writing radicals and anarchists. It was very in character for mabel to rely on her own political upbringing and her arc is just very personal to me.

Overall, things are gearing up beautifully, but now that we know who the king of crows is, things arent quite as scary as the previous two books. I hope im proven wrong in the next installment :)

Great news!! Even after reading this book three times and fully knowing what's coming, the ending of this book can still make me cry. It's fine, I'm totally fine.

This doesn't have the same creepy, haunting vibes as the first two books, and the two parts feel a little more disconnected to the point where I almost wish it had been two separate books (mostly because the back half in particular is so fast-paced and plot heavy that it really loses that spooky edge, and also partly because I selfishly can never get enough of these characters.) This is easily the darkest and most "adult" installment so far, and while it doesn't hit quite as hard as the first two for me, it's still an absolute powerhouse of a book that drags me through the full spectrum of human emotion every time I read it. <3
Spoiler Also shout out to Ling Chan for being so autistic that she accidentally bypassed internalized homophobia, and to Miriam Lubovitch and Viola Campbell for being such milfs that they keep adopting fucked up children like Pokemon despite being held captive. I love women.

The audiobook version is amazing. I had to read summaries to remember what happened in the first two books, but between the summaries and reminds throughout this book I felt like I knew what was going on. I love most of the characters. They feel so well rounded and real. I was no ready for that ending! And now to wait for the next book!!
