I picked this book up on a whim in a great little bookstore in Ouray, CO.

Surprisingly rich with actionable takeaways to beginning, enhancing, and understanding the creative process.

Cleese is (obviously) funny, but also incredibly insightful about ways he and others have found ways to tap into their creative minds and how to hone those skills.

Nice little read!

I feel like the people who give this 3 stars didn't feel like the cost matched the book. I can see that since this was a very short book that costs more to produce and has a big name attached to it. I think a lot of people expected it to be more funny than it was. Not to say it doesn't have humor. But it is a thoughtful and comforting walk through the ideas of creativity and unique thinking. Do I think this reinvents the wheel? No. But it was enjoyable for an hour.

(I would like to dock a 1/2 star for the joke about recording an audiobook that's an hour. I get the dry humor of "well maybe you can't read" but I think this was published late enough that people should have known better)

This is a very short book that is predominantly about the creative process for writing but there are some good tidbits for creativity in general, in particular that sometimes playing with an idea and taking time to make a decision often results in better ideas evolving.

A very short book about encouraging a creative practice. Focused mainly on writing, it could also have uses in other artistic pursuits.

Some might say it is far too short, but it embraces what it is. There's very little filler (such as you might see in other books of its kind), it is to the point, and the few instructions it gives are direct and easy to implement.

I'll put this on my permanent shelf next to Austin Kleon and Twlya Tharp.
