Enjoyable, well-written collection of slightly connected short stories all taking place in Alaska or Alaska adjacent.

This wasn’t a bad collection of short stories by any means…it just also did not hold my attention. I did this one via audio, and wonder if it might have been a better physical read for me. I found my attention wandering off a lot, and kept having to go back and re-listen to parts.
It’s a collection of stories, and some (all? Maybe? I literally just finished and cannot remember) connect to one another. Most of the stories sorta blended together for me, with two outliers. One towards the end is about a clairvoyant woman, and I LOVED it. Like, that story alone would have been a game changer for me. The second story I really liked took place along the Alcan Highway, and was told from multiple perspectives of people who became tangentially connected. It was well done and had the most unique characters of the collection.
But overall, this was a forgettable read for me. I think if the concept sounds interesting to you, give it a try & see if you like it.

this is an absolutely fantastic selection of stories--leigh newman is now up there with bryan washington in my personal canon of contemporary short story writers who have fucked me up completely.
early 20th century period fiction isn't normally what i gravitate towards, especially in a collection as varied as this one, but i absolutely need something akin to "an extravaganza in two acts" in a novel-length format. my ultimate favorite in this collection (which says a lot, considering how good all the stories that come before it are)
