It’s a fine book, though I don’t think I’ll pick it up for a second read. Some of the pacing is off, with some scenes taking more or less time than they should. The character relationships sometimes seem less natural and more rushed together. It’s got an interesting concept and nice overall plot, though.

I'll be honest, I liked the side characters way more than I liked the heroine, which should say something for a proclaimed "feminist" title. I really just found it a trite interpretation of trying to subvert the "princess" narrative. If you are going to make her fight for her kingdom, great! But I didn't connect with her motivations or logic. It just fell really flat for me.
