Picking right up where Hyena left of we continue on the path of Malik and Karina’s story. We learn what happens after Solstasia and where that leads Malik and all the adventures Karina goes on. I also think the Ms. Brown handles the darker themes of grooming and self harm well without delving into triggering topics graphically. I would love to read some stories about the side character also, specifically Afua,  Ife, and Leia and Nadia. Malik has a good heart but alas they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I loved everything about this book except the ending. It was a great way to wrap up the duo. The magic elements and the relationships were so engaging.

The first book was one of my few 5 stars, but this one wasn't there. Still loved the main characters and how things like mental health and trauma were handled so well. Still very engaging. But, this book felt like it meandered at times and then at times was rocketing forward. Characters seemed to not realize obvious things, or happened to come to amazing realizations at other times. There were lots of other relationships at play that didn't feel propped up like the main duo's. Mass destruction and miracles each happened a few times in a way that was hard to really take in, and we had a lot of internal monologues that were often compelling but sometimes not. But I still races through because I was rooting so hard for our main duo!
