I enjoyed this book very much. I liked that kali would try to help people even when she wasn't in her invincible mode. I hope there will be another book

Cool concept, just wish it was more flushed out.

3.5 Stars. This was one of those book that I just happened to pick up. I hadn't heard anything about it ... the blurb seemed interesting, the reviews basically positive, and it was available for immediate download from the library when I needed a book.

I ended up really liking it. It was one that just grabbed you quickly. It was very conversational, easy to read. A lot of action, a lot of humor which I enjoyed! Just attitude like "Reid gave her A Look, capital A, capital L" ... statements like that make me smile and really reflect fondly on my reading!

I did find myself wanting to come back and spend more time with the story (and for prolonged mid-day reading, I require myself to ride the stationary bike while reading, and I like when a book is good enough that it does encourage me to exercise more!)

The book I JUST read (Soulless) talked about the preternatural ... a word I hadn't really heard before, but here it was again! And like the setting of that book, the supernatural creatures out there were known to everyday humankind.

A quotes I highlighted ...

"When you really think about it, we're all broken. That's just what life does. It knocks you down and it breaks you and you either get back up again, or you don't."

"He meant the words, I knew he did, but that didn't make me believe them. It didn't make them true."

I don't think this is a "book 1" but I could see the story continuing on (although the ending had enough closure for a single book as well).

So I went into this book without reading the synopsis (which is a first for me). And let me just tell you that I actually did enjoy this. I shouldn't be surprised since I've read other books by the same author.
I enjoyed the characters in this book. I absolutely loved Skyler and her chirpy attitude. I wasn't sure about Bethany until later on in the book. I have to admit that I was worried about Elliott or any of the other Hayden brothers being a Love interest for Kali. Neither of those guys seemed like a good fit for her. Like they weren't good enough for her.
Zev... what more can I say... If the author decides on writing another book, I hope that she hurries up... I desperately want to know where this relationship is going to go... I know that he wasn't liked by many because of what he did, but I'm the "give them a second chance" type of girl... I can't help it.
All in all, yes, I enjoyed it...

Kali spends one day as a human girl, and one day as a not human girl. Sounds complicated already right? Add in the fact that she is some sort of predator-hunting all the things that go bump in the night. She might even have a hero complex. Which would explain why she tries to save a friend from a chupacabra. Yes, a chupacabra. From that point on, things go awry and out of control. Then there is Zev. Who or what is he and why does he speak to Kali?

Okay. I loved this book. As always Jennifer Lynn Barnes has a fabulous writing style that draws me in and hooks me and doesn't let go. Ever. I went into this book with no expectations, I was wanting a different sort of story and boy did I get it! I haven't had a book pull emotions from deep inside me in quite a while-Every Other Day did exactly that. I also want to comment on Kali's name. I love this name first. And second-love the connection between the character and the Hindu depiction of the Goddess of Destruction. Wonderful naming there!

Barnes pulls no punches in this novel, but she does leave her audience wanting more.

Every Other Day won me over quickly and I will forever be a fan of Jennifer Lynn Barnes because of this book. It was fun, fast, and ferocious, full of action, secrets, and an original take on our world. While this story does work as a standalone, I am hoping with all my might that Barnes decides to and is able to write another book featuring Kali and Co. It will be an instant buy if (when, WHEN!) it happens.

I really enjoy this book. Which I can see it being a fun Netflix movie.

This book was not what I expected it to be. But in this case, this is extremely good. The reader is thrown right into the action, without knowing anything about the characters or the setting. Much like the heroine herself, who doesn't even know what species she is. Because, you see, one day she's human and then the next she is something completely different.

Yes, I know I just repeated a sentence from the Blurb, but that's so accurate, I didn't know how to phrase it differently.

Kali somehow lures the creature out of Bethany's body, and takes it on herself, thinking that once she turn back into what she calls "The Hunter" her strange body and blood will just kill the creature. This does not happen like she planned, though and she finds herself on a downward spiral.

I know I critiqued a different novel for being too busy with creatures, but while this one has very many unnatural creatures, too (like a basilisk, dragons, hell hounds, and so on) it feels more real, it's believable, and that's what writing a novel should be about, too.

Now, why didn't this get five stars? Mostly because it was too fast paced, there were hardly any scenes where I could catch my breath beacuse the newly found doom was approaching far too swiftly. This can be good if used in moderation, but it was just a little too much for me.

Still, I tore through this book, I loved the setting and Kali, and little Skylar, and Zev (Kali's love interest). I was sensing at least a sequel but it doesn't seem like there will be one, sadly.
