there wasn't a single character in this book that i cared about except for briar, however, i think it might have been the author's intention to make the majority of the characters unlikable. reid did an excellent job of exploring the dynamic between employer and employee, as well as the relationship between emira and briar. this book is definitely a conversation starter and depicts a superbly realistic portrayal of those with a white savior complex.

i liked the plot but for some reason, the writing just felt very choppy to me and there were a lot of unnecessary details that i felt took away from the flow of the story. i didn't particularly enjoy this book but am still looking forward to whatever reid publishes next.

Mehhhhh. Not horrible but didn’t live up to the hype, and I don’t think it deeply explored race and class like everyone is saying. I found the characters, especially alix, at times lacking depth (though maybe that was the point with her) and often succumbing to stereotypes with trite dialogue. God I’m just glad emira didn’t end up with Kelley at the end or I would’ve vomited.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

i loved the message of this book, specially how performative activism is thought of as the right way to support POC by white people in order to make themselves feel better.

the only issue i had with it is that the synopsis of the book is literally only the first chapter so i was quite surprised by the fact that it was completely different as to what i was expecting.

nonetheless it was a great read and i really recommend it :)

I understand the popularity of this book for addressing social issues of race. white privilege and honest motivation.
I was underwhelmed with the characters, dialogue and unresolved ending for all characters. The title of Such A Fun Age referred to who or what age?
