More on this later - I have the audiobook on hold at the library, I'm going to listen to it and see if I can understand more of the story that way. Original, engaging, interesting, at parts I felt like I was reading a way better movie of the Matrix than the Matrix. What does it mean? I don't know yet.

Neuromancer has appeared on my radar several times throughout the years, and I've heard comparisons to Snow Crash from multiple people. Snow Crash feels like a parody/homage to the genre, and having read that first, I expected that same sort of 'cheesy' hacker story in Neuromancer. But Gibson's book felt much darker, and the way it vaguely describes certain concepts does create a feeling of realism. At the same time however, that vagueness can make this book hard to follow at points. Despite this, the fast pace and fascinating world-building kept me interested throughout. There are lots of complex and thought-provoking ideas in this book which clearly inspired a lot of subsequent media.
