Both books before this one were so good! And this one lived up to that same standard in that I loved it! There were some really funny moments as I am coming to expect from this author, although I don’t feel anything quite as hilarious as the menstrual cup incident in the 2nd book, but still moments that were very light. However with Ryan having ALS it made for a lot of really emotional moments too. I really liked how the author didn’t make us have to stress over a big misunderstanding or separation as the final dark moment. I like that the dark moment like that happened soon enough to give the characters time to figure things out.

My one complaint was a little bit about how Ryan did stay so stubborn about not wanting anything to last because of what he didn’t even know would be for sure! Also maybe a little with how Maggie was kinda rude at the beginning to him. I enjoyed though, all the different family members we knew from the other books, as well as more from the two that will be getting their own books. I was a little worried when I heard that there will be a spin-off series of Ryan’s friends that the author wasn’t going to give us all the King children’s stories. But there will be 3 more books in this series, so I’m satisfied.

When I first began listening I was a little concerned about having the same narrators do this book. I usually like best when authors have different narrators for each character’s book. Jay Crownover’s Marked Men series is my best example of this. However as I got to listening, I remembered I shouldn’t be worried about Chris Brinkley, as he did a great job with making each of the Winston brothers sound different for Penny Reid’s series. And the female narrator, Amanda Stribling also did a great job at sounding a lot different than the voice as she read in the last book. The only thing similar was that at times she still read a little fast.

Once again I loved this book, and loved the little surprise bit at the end that I’m sure is leading to the next book.

Why do I like these books so much? They are so cute and hot! Though this one was a bit heavy with ALS genes and death of parents (off page) it was still funny and flirty. Ryan was so sweet and smoking hot and I’m wishing he was my next door neighbour.

SpoilerThe one thing I did have an issue with was the ending where he just didn’t have the gene and that was the HEA. I kind of wanted there to be a moment for the people who are living with ALS or other terminal illnesses. Like they are entitled to their HEA too.

Susannah Nix has done it again!!

Pint of Contention was a blend of beauty and of pain, of fear and of vulnerability, and Ryan might just be my favourite King sibling yet (and as someone who adored Tanner, that says a lot!) Nix has crafted with intention and maturity, the life breathed into these characters relatable and fresh, and I appreciated the care that has been taken and the sensitive insight into ALS and the weight of Ryan’s fear.

Ryan was genuine and endearing, and the tenderness shared between he and Maggie was beautiful - I swear I teared up a couple times. I loved the push and the pull, the equal serving of strength and stubbornness, and the gentle love and delicious spice blended throughout. And Maggie - she was an absolute queen, owning her ground amidst the unfavourable light cast by her job. Seeing her open up to Ryan and explore the possibilities with him was exciting and it was all the love and joy she deserved.

Ryan’s fear of needing Maggie, and the pain of the secret he carried was painful; at times, almost debilitating. And oh how my heart hurt for him, this man who was so gentle and loving and deserving of all the love Maggie could offer him. She was his peace, his safety, and I loved this for him, just as he was everything for her in return. It was a balanced relationship and I just adored their individual growths and chemistry.

This was a charming, delectable love story that packed both heat and heart, and I wish I could experience this for the first time once more. My craving for the King Family is insatiable, and I cannot wait for another taste.

Thank you to Susannah Nix for the advanced copy of this book.

The longer I sit after reading Pint of Contention, the more I think about how much I really enjoyed it. I have read all the books in the King Family series so far, and this is definitely the book that has lived with me the most. Maggie and Ryan’s story is unlike anything I’ve read in the past and that is a good thing. I already loved Susannah Nix, but after this solid 4.5 star book she totally has me hooked into her reading world!

I love Susannah Nix, she writes fabulous characters. This was a fun read, lots of emotion and heart and also QUITE steamy - more than most of the Women in STEM series of hers I’ve read definitely. Ryan and Maggie are both loveable and frustrating and it’s delightful watching them love and frustrate each other. Thanks NetGalley for the advance digital review copy

Back with the Kings Family!

Finally! Ryan’s book! I’ve been anticipating this one forever. Ryan is the sweetest, even in the first two books. You could just tell he’s compassionate and well rounded despite his childhood being so full of loss.

I enjoyed Maggie’s character a lot. Her no nonsense persona and hard at work attitude was refreshing. Especially her reluctance to Ryan at first.
