Oh my GOD WHY are the female characters only getting worse? I hate almost every one of them, I'm insulted reading how women are portrayed, I cringe and I don't know how much longer I can take these catty, vain, agressive and arrogant bitches. Men are stereotypical too, but the women are pure contempt. ESPECIALLY Nynaeve. What the hell, she was getting some character development earlier to throw it all out the window in this book? FFS.
The pacing is again mediocre. The romance is appalling. The story and worldbuilding are interesting and I'm determined (not necessarily eager) to finish this series but for the love of God do I not understand how can this be the holy grail of a series to so many.

The book starts slowly - like most of them. The ending however is quite outstanding in its dynamic and twisting turns that it takes. After the most recent re-read I would describe this book as the first of the "grown-up" ones of the series. This is where I would say things go on another level. We see the first major battles described. More politics and grand scheming than ever before. The gruesome and dark finale. Overall left me very pleased.
