Liked it more than the last one, but I felt it wasn't the high point of the series. Characterization continues to be very good.

It took me a bit to get into this one and I don't know if that's my mental state right now (thanks to COVID-19 and social distancing) or if it's the book. However, I did get into it and there were quite some surprises! I also learned to like Leah a bit more, which was unexpected and nice. I even feel a bit sorry for her. Enjoying this series, but taking a break for a little bit.

Four stars for some goddamn Leah appreciation, man. I'm a sucker for cute angry blondes who take care of the people the people they care about care for because they care about their people.

That sentence makes sense if you look at it long enough, I swear.

Overall I completely enjoyed this book though I do share the same complaint as many longtime fans of the series. Since I prefer to keep this spoiler free I won't elaborate but I will say while I don't agree with "the statement"it's not enough for me to pull out my pitchfork and stop reading these and the Mercy books and I hope the majority of us feel the same.

It’s been a while. Equally as wonderful as the whole series. The action really ramps up and resolves & doesn’t quite resolve itself as you close in on the end of the book. Briggs has some crazy stuff planned for our werewolves.
