This entire series is great. I've read both series in this storyline 3 times now! Its what I fall back to when I'm in a reading slump. Its just that good!

This book was written in 2013 about the Bornavirus that infects the world. Although this one turns the infected into zombies. They are technically dead but the parasite / host relationship causes them to search for food, other humans. This starts the cycle all over again.

Too soon for this? I thought maybe but the saw it recommended if you liked Station Eleven. I had never heard of it before and gave it a try. Of course nothing can compare to Station Eleven. But I enjoyed this nonetheless.

Cassie’s day has gone from bad to worse when she decides she is finally going to break up with her not so nice boyfriend that evening; only to have her plans delayed by a virus outbreak in NYC.

Fortunately for her and her friends, Cassie’s parents were preppers and Cassie inherited their two homes after they died. They make it to her apartment and decide to hole up there. Then they here from several different sources, they need to get out of the city tonight as it is about to be put on lockdown.

They decide to go upstate to her parent’s place, which is secluded and has everything they could need. But as they realize what the news is telling them differs from what they see, the miles they need to travel become more and more dangerous. Oh and Cassie didn’t get to break up with her boyfriend before this all happened. So he is in the rag tag group but for many reasons makes bad decisions that put everyone in jeopardy.

There is someone else out there that she loves to the “until the end of the world”. Well it seems like that is happening and that will be tested, OF they both survive and can find each other.

Julia Whalen narrates the audio and I finished it in about two days. This one kept me up at night.

Took me awhile to get into it. Thought about stopping at one point. About 1/4 of the way in it hit me and I couldn’t put it down. Ordered the rest in the series right after finishing. Can’t wait to continue the story.

I laughed, cried, screamed and cried some more.
Happiness, sadness and full on heartache all through this story.
An absolute #unputdownable book.
Hooked from the get go.
Can not wait to read more

I'm really into dystopian genre now....but usually avoid zombie stuff (yes I did start watching The Walking Dead-binged the first 4, maybe 5, seasons on weekends leading up to the start of the next).
But this was pretty good. I could generally see the scenes Fleming creates and the people and stories seemed pretty realistic. Yes there are some "coincidences" but those are pretty normal in end-of-the-world stories.

Depending on your tween/teen it's definitely readable in that age group. If they can read the Peregrin's Children series, they can read this.

A very entertaining read with a vastly disappointing ending.
