While the magic system is interesting, the story is a bit rough in some places. As a different medium (graphic novel versus written novel), there isn’t much room for character growth or character introspection. Our main character, for instance, survives a massacre, loses his power and then somehow regains it (along with a power boost) in the span of a couple of pages. He doesn’t seem to grieve much after seeing his people die - he just picks himself up and leaves. I could see the events of this first installment spanning across several volumes, but I’ll track down the sequel to see how the story progresses.

It's really interesting to see Sanderson's writing in a comic format. The lineart and colors are beautiful.
