Another excellent book in this series. The tension builds up relatively slowly, but there is some interesting magical action in the "showdown". The romance subplot and a sort of midlife crisis of the main characters is is predominant in the first half of this novel.

Both main characters, Alejandro and Shekinah, are in their forties and polyamorous. Alejandro is pansexual and Shekinah has a girlfriend. Alejandro also hooks up with a younger trans man. Though Shekinah and Alejandro have some problems in their relationship, the polyamory is not the reason for this, and the representation of this relationship form is really good in my eyes.

Some more topics in this novel include: Kundalini Yoga practice and Hindu deities, e.g. Shiva and Shakti. Reincarnation, working with ancestors, Dia de los Muertos and Samhain. And last but not least: A very diverse interfaith community action and activism - I love how these characters and groups with very different spiritual traditions work together for the greater good.
