Overall, it was a sweet and cute book, but a little bland. I wouldn’t go out of my way to read the other books in the series. Click on the banner to read my full review.

Overachiever is entirely adorable- what a fun little new adult, friends-to-lovers rom com romp! This is my first SM Shade book- though many of her stories have graced my TBR- and I’m so glad I’ve finally jumped in. This is a light story- mostly lower drama, very humorous, and super cute.

I had not read the first book in the series (though I am now), so while the friends span the books, you don’t need to have read the prior one to dive in. Our story follows two friends, Owen and Remee, as they find themselves working together as interns building houses for the summer to earn a grant to pay for their college tuition. They’re part of the same friend circle, but isolated and away from their friend pack, these two cuties find themselves connecting in new and exciting ways...wink wink.

Remee is our “overachiever”- she’s driven, focused on her goals, and highly ambitious. She’s all kinds of Type A- which is the ultimate barrier to her budding connection with Owen, because she’s unwilling to consider any distractions. Owen, on the other hand, is super laid back. While incredibly intelligent, he doesn’t have a long term plan like Remee- he’s just enjoying the now. He’s also SUCH a cutie- he’s a adorably goofy at times, witty, and such a sweetie. His chemistry with Remee is really sweet- these two have fun banter, have some sweet emotional moments, and fall together so naturally.

I appreciated the diversity of the types of humor here- we have everything to some slapstick physical humor to witty banter. SM does something quite clever- she makes talking about sex and having sex FUNNY. Which only endears her characters to us more- and makes their story feel so relatable. And, despite one minor blip, the story is pretty decidedly low drama and low angst- it’s as chill as Owen. I will say I didn’t quite buy their friendship at first-they felt more like acquaintances, but once they were isolated, the friendship more authentic to me, and I certainly bought in then. Their relationship is also told in two parts- and I actually appreciate we get a good chunk of story after they are together, and though I didn’t find that as humorous as as engaging as the their getting together stage, it was a treat to see the before and after aspects of their romance (something we often only see in an epilogue). And, the later portions of the story really help deepen our understanding of these characters.

All in all, I’m glad to have discovered this author. I loved getting to escape for a bit in something so sweet and fun with such a poignant and meaningful message- the reminder that there is always room for love in any plan, you just have to let it in.

This book is non-stop laughter! Rem is an everything in its place by the book planner. She knows where she wants to be and she knows how to get there and she will work her tail off to ensure everything goes the way she wants and expects it to. Enter goofball Owen. Typical fly by the seat of his pants guy, but that doesn't stop him from crushing on his friend Remee. When they are put together, they can't fight the pull for long.
I love this author's sense of humor. I've often laughed so hard during the Violent Circle books my daughter has come and asked me what I was doing. This is the perfect book to use as a palette cleanser, plenty of steam, plenty of romance, but its the hijinx that ensue that will make you wish you could pack up and move to Violent Circle yourself and hang out with these folks!

Remee and Owen is a friends to lovers story. Both takes a job for the summer working in Florida to help build houses for charity. While in Florida they turn from friends to lovers due to the living conditions. Then Renee falls in love with Owen not realize that Owen has love her for awhile for now. So she runs away back home when theirs friends leaves for the end back home. Even though love was never in her plan. She always been a overachiever and now is confused. So she heads home to visit her mother so she can figure things out but Owen shows up and he tells her that he in love with her. And now she knows what needs to do. They don’t know what the future holds but together they can handle.

While at home Remee reconnect with her twin sister and nephew. You get to know Remee and Owen friends through out the books. I love them. They have me laugh so much.

Overachiever is great book. It all the passion steamy drama and love. S. M. Shade gives us a some fantastic characters. She carry’s us on the ups and the downs of theirs relationship. The ending of Overachiever is great. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

Remee is responsible, driven, and stubborn. So when she starts her new summer job to help gain her credits for school, it's no surprise she plans to make the most of it.

Owen is sweet, funny, and easy going. And definitely not the worse choice for a summer fling. Friends, co-workers and temporary roommates, what is the worst that can happen?

Honestly, I loved this book. It made me snort with laughter multiple times. It was exactly what I needed to wind down for the week, and I devoured it in a few hours.

This book was funny with it's sweet moments and light hearted and helped me escape for a few hours. It was great being back in violent Circle and enjoying the crazy once again. 5 ⭐ out of 5⭐.

Ps- to my fiance who was judging my humor. Shut up, it was funny. Unlike the meme you showed me earlier...

I laughed so damn hard and so damn much with this book!! I wasn’t expecting it to be THIS funny! The first book had funny moments in it and I enjoyed it but this one… surpassed the first one by miles!! Owen is my absolute favorite funny guy ever! The way he talks down tense situations with the crack of a joke, the pure RESPECT he has for women, he’s so damn smart, and that heart of his.. omggggg.
This is definitely going to wind up in my top reads for the year I’m calling it now!
