This book is one of my favourites of all time! Horror and queer as hell (pun intended), this story takes religious zealots and mixes with a world ending virus to create the apocalyptic events of the near future. I binge read this I’m two days and loved every moment in this world.

THIS is the divine trans body horror that I came for. Pulsating, bleeding, shuddering, befingered stone churches with scrawled-message walls and a literal Holy Communion of not-quite-living-but-not-quite-dead flesh at the altar? This is the real shit. There's something so gratifying about a body-changing trans narrative that fulfills itself with horror and gore and monstrosity rather than pretty gender-conforming magic. Sometimes you are the sunset over a healing world, and sometimes you are the redeemed ugly little thing that follows your found family home, yes you are!
I cared so much less about everyone who wasn't Benji that I sort of got tunnel vision around him. My only real nitpick about this book is that there are so many damn characters. Hell's bells, it was a lot of characters. I literally could not keep them straight. Maybe I needed a chart. I also have aphantasia, so I didn't get to experience the full majesty of Benji and The Flood the way other readers might have, but I loved it all the same.

High rating due to how much I connected with the characters. Seeing both queer and neurodivergent characters in media is extremely important.
