reading women challenge 2020: read a biography

I think I would have liked this more if I'd read it at some other time, but what with my panicking about COVID-19 I had trouble concentrating on it.

Very informative which is the nice part, but because of it, it was hard to read for me.
I was so excited to finally pick this book up since one of my favorite movies was based on this book and I was really hoping that this book would be a biography written more as a novel, which unfortunately wasn’t the case.

Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire was an interesting and flawed woman. She was intelligent and ambitious and constantly plagued by her addictions. This books adds another layer to my understanding of history and the effect that a small number of people can have on a nation and even the world.

There is so much to like about this book - a detailed view of a politician and a celebrity, which does not shy away from dealing with the more difficult aspects of Georgiana’s character. This was a re-read, and I will likely return to this again as there is so much here about the politics and personal lives of the highest ranks of society at this time.

I think that Georgiana is one of the most fascinating nobles that I have read about. This biography was very enlightening. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone interested in learning about this woman.

I just finished reading this and there is alot of info in the book and it took me awhile to read but I did find I like reading about her life and how her great neice however many time followed in some of her footsteps. I also just went and saw the movie and it followed the "love" part of the book and not all the other details.

I'm a bit torn when it comes to writing the review for this book. Georgiana's life was fascinating and this book gave lots of details into her life. But for someone so interesting, it was a... a bit dry. She lived a very full life but the tone of this book didn't match the exciting world Georgiana inhabited. With that being said, it was well-written and I plan to go back to it in the future.

After seeing the movie The Duchess, I was intrigued by the life of Georgiana Spencer and bought this book to learn more. It's a fairly interesting read - I haven't finished it yet, but so far I can say that she definitely wasn't the saint they portrayed in the movie!
