I very much enjoyed this from Bayron, even more so that 'Cinderella Is Dead', which I read earlier this year and loved. Greek mythology, plant magic, a mysterious inheritance, and Black queer people just existing - this had so many fantastic aspects. I can't wait to read 'This Wicked Fate' and find out what happens next!

I enjoyed this more than Cinderella is Dead. Loved learning about plants & different Greek mythology folks that aren’t Zeus, Hera, Poseidon or Hades. I can see upper middle / high school students enjoying this minus a smidge of curse words here and there. I do wish there had been more development between Marie & Bri - I know it’s hinted they may end up being a couple but I don’t feel like I got to know Marie to make sense of a future relationship. I loved Bri’s moms though and will definitely be reading book 2.

WHAT THE HECK THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!!
Plants, magic, and a diverse cast of characters make this story shine, I loved every second of this queer fantasy book. When Bri finds out she has inherited a house from her birth family, it feels like the answer to her family's financial problems, and a chance to find out more about the mysterious powers she possesses. Everyone has secrets in the town, and while she's happy to open the apothecary and work in the poison garden, she soon finds out how dangerous of a situation she has landed herself in.
I could not pick a favorite part out of this book, I adored all of it! Seriously! Every character was so fleshed out and easy to distinguish, I loved the queer romance and how Bri has two Moms, and diverse fantasy? Yes please! I also learned so much about botany which was just so cool. All the mythology elements was a surprise, but I loved the inclusion of it.
It did end on a bit of a cliffhanger, but not in a way that felt cheap and like a cop out.
The sequel is out now and I am so glad because I need to read it IMMEDIATELY! Before even typing this review I went and requested it from the library. READ THIS!
