Mixed feelings about this book. A totally absorbing story including the despair of European Jews in WW2 written convincingly well. Knowing how the story ended as that is where the book started was a mistake for me. Otherwise loved it...

Beautifully written - but very sad, I'm disappointed in the brevity of the ending.

This was a beautifully crafted and engaging book. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to find out how everything would resolve in this story. I did feel that the ending was very abrupt and I wish that the author had given us a bit more.

This historical novel left me wanting to know more about the real artists mentioned and wanting to know more about the concentration camp, Terezin. So, of course, after finishing I spent some time researching and found the actual sketches of Bedrich Fritta--the ones that he drew while in the concentration camp and were hidden away until after the war! Amazing to look at. I am always astounded at the real stories that come out of hardship.

Also the premise of the book (where two people randomly meet at a wedding and figure out they were married to each other before the war but haven't seen each other since) is definitely a case of real life being stranger than fiction. Totally blew my mind that it was based on a true event.

I really enjoyed the way this author presented the story; the two perspectives drew me.

Beautifully written novel. I'm not a huge fan of sappy romances, so I was glad that this story had the added depth of art and WWII. I do wish that there had been further development of the other marriages, but overall a touching story.
