Finally got round to reading about the big bad OG vampire himself! This book was not as frightful as I might have found it to be if I were reading it around the time it was published, but it was still haunting and eerie nonetheless. The language is captivating and despite the pervasive darkness and demonic symbolism surrounding old-time vampire lore (which I must admit, is refreshing when I think of how modern literature has disfigured these badass soulless immortal bloodsuckers into the ridiculously laughable vampires we imagine today. I’m looking at you, Mr Sparkles) - there is a feeling of very strong hope and morality running across page to page. The courage of the characters when faced with such evil is inspiring even to modern-day readers. That being said, I enjoyed the first half of the novel far more than I did the second half, and I can’t think of any reason other than the story really started dragging itself out after a while, which led to a pretty anti-climatic ending and left me wanting more.

I know it’s a classic but I just could not get into it. I listened to it through though.
