Some of the best prose I’ve read in a long time. Cline’s intimate descriptions of the agony of girlhood hit close to home.

I did not really enjoy the writing style of the book as it was a bit too wishy washy for me but the story gripped me.

Abrupt ending that was actually a relief..literally. Felt myself kind of anxious the whole time reading.

So well written. A bit wordy at times and really disturbed but I like how matter of fact it was

This is the kind of book that, had I read it as a teenager, I might have enjoyed it. But as an adult I found it pompous, overly written, and just sad. It's the kind of book that only white girls can enjoy. I can't even find the words to say how much I did not enjoy this book.

i surprised myself by how quickly i fell through this book (once i started reading it properly). it's been on my bookshelf for ages, but i picked it up when literally nothing else was taking my fancy. stars for plot, writing style (boy can paris review writers scratch an itch in my brain), and how eager i was to get through it

i look forward to potentially seeing what else emma cline has written, though i can't say I'll be running towards her. i think i liked this for the same reasons i like anything related to the u.s. in the '60s: in short, the vibes.
