I really struggled to get through this book and I think it will be the last of the series that I read. I didn’t like the first that much, but I was willing to give it another shot because I loved Priory of the Orange Tree.

But nothing happened for like 300 pages. And then I didn’t really care about the things that happened.
There was a plot twist, I guess you can call it, that made me go: so what? Is this supposed to make me want to read the next book? Because it doesn’t.

Also this love story, if that is what it’s supposed to be is completely unnecessary.

Honestly I don’t give a damn if any of these characters die or if the Rephaim win. I tried to like it, but in the end I kinda skimmed the pages because it just didn’t end.

It’s taken me a month and a half to finally finish reading this book. I’m disappointed that I didn’t like it, especially as I really enjoyed the first one. I wasn’t invested in the plot, didn’t care for any of the characters and never had the desire to pick this up and read it. Would have probably DNF’d it ages ago if it wasn’t for the audiobook (I picked it up whenever I was getting ready or going to the shop to fill time with). I won’t be carrying on with this series, but I’m eager to try other Samantha Shannon books!
