I didn't expect to like this--previously turn of the century writers have always left me cold. Woolf writes in a long stream of consciousness, with no chapter breaks and only occasional blank lines. The book flows from character to character, jumping from mind to setting to the next mind. The writing is a blend of poetry and prose and is absolutely delicious.

I'm off to check out the Spark Notes to uncover much of the "deeper" meaning, but even at a surface level I enjoyed the experience of the read.

Almost everything in this books is completely mundane, yet the pace is unrelenting. Woolf's prose is so sensible and sensitive that you immediately understand every character on a personal level.
