So many layers, so good.

This novel was a lot for me to digest. There was a vast emotional distance between myself and the plot in the first quarter; however, this changed to reveal quite an elegant and profound story.
I think the circumstances of my upbringing caused my initial distaste towards the characters as I was entirely unfamiliar with the world context being described. In saying this, the brilliant pacing meant that I didn't have to dwell in my own sense of illiteracy for too long. I came to really appreciate the qualities of every personality that crossed paths with the protagonist. This novel effortlessly glided through a recount of a single man's life, delighting itself in the things we come to learn over the course of a lifetime.
It's pretty cool when a reader can come to value a character who isn't particularly cool or extraordinary. It kind of shows that the author didn't have to rely on any remarkable qualities to make their characters intriguing.
also, weirdly, this book never really described anyone's appearance in great depth which was interesting.
There were also just a lot of really stellar passages.
I could talk about it for ages but I'll stop now .
yeet.
