RAVI SINGH THE MAN THAT YOU ARE 🤩🤩🤩

everyone who has so vehemently disliked this ending clearly just hates to see a girlboss win 💅🏽💅🏽💅🏽

In all seriousness I owe miss Holly Jackson the biggest of apologies because so many things in the first book of the series that I just chalked up to plot holes/loose strings/little oopsies of a first-time author were actually me just not understanding her gorgeous giant galaxy brain like miss ma'am had a PLAN and it all came together so beautifully it actually made me want to re-read the whole series immediately after finishing this book (I won't, but, ya know… I REALLY want to……… maybe in the next year or two 😅😅😅).

I've seen some reviews from people who were dissatisfied with this ending to the trilogy commenting on how it felt "out of character" and it "completely deviated" from the first two and, while everyone's opinion and the way they interpret a book is obviously extremely subjecting and there is no such thing as a "right" opinion (in most cases, at least?  😜😜😜), I really and truly felt like everything led up to exactly what this book came to be.  The ending felt like a full-circle moment, where everything had changed yet the situation felt almost the exact same as in the beginning, as if it were a mirror-image, and it left me really having to think about whether or not anything can ever truly be just black and white, or if there will always be the greys in between.

I loved part 1! I had lots of OMG moments at some reveals and twists and turns. I wish loved part two as much but I didn't, it was good and not great in my opinion. Still a bloody brilliant trilogy.

I can see why this is such a controversial 3rd instalment... and I have my doubts about this still being marked as YA, considering that the themes and what happens in this book is dark, darker than the other two and more explicit. But with that said, I actually think the direction that this took is honestly fairly refreshing. A girl, traumatised and let down repeatedly by the justice system, taking the law into her own hands? Pip wasn't the same after what she had done in the last two books, she couldn't be, and I am glad that the author did not hide away from that and try and give us a cushy 'oh look one last fun ride for Pip!".

SpoilerBut I do question some of Pip's decisions... If the police had enough evidence to see that Jason was the DT killer, they would have believed her if she'd escaped. And even if she had killed him, surely that could have been put down to self-defence, regardless of his injuries or her true intentions. Or, would the fire not have eliminated enough physical evidence that it couldn't be pinned on her (or anyone else)? Idk, I need to think about it some more, but I'm not 100% convinced by her actions. What I would have been convinced by is her confessing, and perhaps the police believing it was murder, but her friends taking action to demonstrate that it wasn't and showing who Jason Bell really was. I think that'd have been a less controversial way to take the story, too.

I support women’s rights, but more importantly I support women’s wrongs.
