Incredibly powerful. I’m in awe of the story and the myriad of emotions I felt while reading. The depth and details that Hannah is able to include demonstrates her thorough research. It made me process and reanalyze my own experiences and emotions I still carry from nursing during the COVID pandemic.  I will carry this story with me for a long while. The complex relationships were well done. I did however find the first half more interesting and compelling than the second.

Kristin Hannah does it again. Another very compelling, emotionally gripping read. I loved The Nightingale, but I equally enjoyed this one, perhaps even a little more? It's hard to say as memory is fickle, but either way this was definitely another five star read from me.

Not going to lie, as I finished part 1, I was kind of agreeing with all the reviews I had read about how people hated this book. Where was the character development? Was this the same author who wrote the emotionally wrenching The Nightingale? Really? But I kept reading, and boy, that was the right choice. The second part is rife with emotion, and filled with a complex story about PTSD, addiction, loss, and coming out the other side. Really worthwhile read.

Easiest 5 stars I've given so far this year. Kristin Hannah is unbelievable. She weaves tales and tells stories that everyone else shies away from - and she takes them on headfirst. I haven't read anything of hers that I haven't loved but I fear this one may ruin those that are to come.

If you pick this one up, you will be transported. One moment you will be in Vietnam, side-by-side with Frankie in the OR. Then in a blink, you're back on US soil witnessing the vets of Vietnam - and the women in particular - get left behind. There are twists and turns. There is heartbreak. There is grief and loss and coming to terms with the harsh realities of war.

And the last few pages...there are no words.
