This is kind of a filler novel in the series: good, suspenseful, some interesting side characters and plot lines, but definitely setting up the final, climactic showdown between HIVE and the Disciples in the last two books. This is kind of a nitpicky issue, but the chapters are long and seem to get longer with every new installment... and I really just want the section breaks to act as chapter breaks!

Some good buildup between Otto and Laura, and I love Shelby... more Shelby content please. But
the reintroduction of Tom and Penny fell flat, like a deus ex machina, and this series already pulled "high-ranking school official is secretly evil" once with Contessa, so I spotted it a mile away with Dekker. I am starting to wonder if Lucy is really alive though, since somehow no one ever stays dead, especially people that we didn't directly witness die... and the final character list still included her even though she wasn't mentioned once in this book. Maybe I just hope so since her death was so misogynistic and lazy!
