I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and had a wicked twist at the end...didn't see that coming! If you enjoy the works of Jodi Picoult, you will love this book!

This was a good read...I don't want to give too much away, BUT....I have to say, learning all the interesting information about elephants was wonderful and gut wrenching. There were times I was crying and actually had to stop reading because of the graphic details and real life elephant stories. Love Jodi, love elephants and was very pleased with this read!

Wow.
It's been a long time since I read a Jodi Picoult book. Her writing sucked me in, the story had great pacing, just the right amount of suspense, and then hit me with a twist I wasn't expecting. Great characters, both humans and the pachyderms. I loved all of the elephant stories and the research and references shared at the end of the novel.

I was certain I was just going to absolutely love this book, but I didn't. Elephants are my favorite animals, so I was very excited about that aspect of the book. After finishing the book I've decided the passages about the elephants were the parts of the book I enjoyed the most, which says something about how much I cared about these characters. I was so surprised when the psychic was introduced; shocked would probably be a more accurate word for my feelings. I've read several books by this author, and the paranormal aspects of this book were definitely a new direction. I didn't really identify with the characters in a meaningful way, and some of their actions left me feeling confused. For example, why did Virgil commit suicide? That was never really explained. In conclusion, this was an interesting read but not a great one.

Wow! Wow! I loved this story. I didn't expect the path it went down and I definitely feel it's not a typical Jodi Picoult story. I loved the shock and surprises this novel presented. I also enjoyed learning the few facts about the elephants too. I'd definitely recommend.

From the beginning the story was not very mysterious to me, that's why I spent quite a long time reading this book. Just after 250 pages it got more interesting and the ending changed my rating from 2 starts to 3. The ending was surprising and made me think about the story again. Sometimes I have the problem with Picoults books that I don't really care any of the characters, they are often not very likeable.

3.5 Not sure how I felt about the ending but I can say that I didn't see that coming! I enjoyed the book and will read more by this author. The side-story regarding elephants, grieving, and why they do some of the things they do was very thought-provoking, and I think that part might stick with me more than the main story.

Update - Thanks to Jodi Picoult, I am now obsessed with The Elephant Sanctuary (www.elephants.com), lol. I think they're doing beautiful work there.

Absolutely loved this book. There is a twist at the end that to me wasn't mind blowing but many people thought it was. I enjoyed all the information about elephants and how they grieve. That is what really hooked me on this book. And reading the author's notes at the end about all the research she did was just fascinating to me. Definitely a must read!
