This book slapped when I was eleven and it still slaps twenty years later. I am also still ensorcelled by the jewel embedded on the front cover. Some things never change!

Lovely book, I love the way it is presented with the flaps and interactive features. However I am confused as to how much of this was based on true events as it's a facsimile however Emily Sands goes missing at the end with no closure to what she may have found or what may have happened to her which I find a bit odd for a children's book.

I love all the Ology books, but this was my first and my favorite. Had anyone been able to translate the hieroglyphs on the cover? I recently got the book back out and I've been trying to translate, but haven't been able to using the translate fold out in the book or using outside sources.

this is a beautiful book that, although a fine spark for the imagination of a child about the Ancient Egyptian world, is really not a very good educational resource

This book has some beautiful illustrations in it, and a lot of the interactive features - such as fold-out diagrams and booklets of hieroglyphics - make it really enjoyable to read. This book would be perfect if it went more for the facts and less for the spooky-disappearing-expedition vibe, because if that part's truth is questionable, then I'm naturally going to question the "facts" about Egypt that I'm reading. I think that the interactive, highly visual nature of this book would be well applied to a purely factual book, because let's face it, learning is a lot more fun when it's so stunningly visual as well.
