Totally devastated that Austen died before finishing this book. It's so funny and smart and promising. Signals an interesting turn in setting. I just would have loved to have seen it realised. It makes me despair that she was taken from us in her prime. I wonder what her ouvre would look like had she lived longer.

a lovely set up to the characters - although im not sure i could name most of them now! as we only get the first 13 chapters it is difficult to remember who anyone is. a stand out moment was the conversation between charlotte and edward about literature.
i wish she had been able to finish this novel as i feel like it has a lot of potential. but the writing style was slightly annoying during the dialogue (endless dashes) and as i knew that nothing would come of these forming relationships i found it difficult to invest much of my emotion.
i really like the little looks into charlotte's subconscious :)

REREAD :
my judgement seemed quite harsh the first time round haha. i like the dashes now - can appreciate their value in developing characterisation and emphasising idiosyncratic tendencies. the hypochondriacs are so funny - arthur refusing to have butter on his toast and then sneaking a little bit into his mouth. i do think i would have appreciated a bit more charlotte content - this fragment is very much dominated by introducing the other characters (fair enough, as it is the beginning of the novel). i wish she had finished it!

C'était rigolo mais pas le plus drôle, j'ai pas vraiment aimé la fin, comment tout les perso se recoupent ect c'était très prévisible et trop scandaleux, trop moderne maybe

It was an enjoyable read; easy to tell where Austen left off and Another Lady took up the rest. I'm not too sure how Austen would have felt about the whole Sir Edward scenario at the end but I liked Charlotte and Sidney and a lot of the characters felt like Austen's cup of tea. Perhaps more something she would have read and enjoyed than written herself though.

Only giving it 2.5☆ because it's Austen (somewhat). I think she would roll in her grave knowing what this author made of the rest of the story, though I will compliment the writer for a pretty close approximation of Austen's style. I also wonder how much revision even the beginning would have undergone, had Austen lived to complete the story. It seemed even the first 11 chapters didn't have the brilliance of her other novels, at least not yet. I just can't get over the ludicrous plotting by "another lady." It was barely better than a modern romance novel set in the Regency period.
