The second book in the series definitely offered a different outlook on things. It wasn't as much about the deaths of innocents as it was about life. Or should I say the afterlife, of ones soul to be exact. It wasnt about if, when, and who someone was going to die next. It was about one single person. Addison, Todd's ex. Todd found out that Addison had sold her soul which then swung him into mission mode of getting it back before she died, in five days. Of course Kaylee delves right in, what else could she do? Nash reluctantly agreed to do the same for Kaylee's sake, despite the animosity he felt for the idea.

Truthfully? I am kind of on the same lines as Nash. It was her own fault for signing a contract without reading it and then not even bothering to get a copy. Seriously? Not to mention wilingly selling your soul. Some people to do stupid things for the right reasons sometimes but it still doesn't mean those actions should be condoned.

Anyway, I don't want to write a review with spoilers so I am going to steer away from other things that I would like to say. However there are still a few things that still bug me about this series. One, why can't Tod "transport" people or make them non corporeal like himself? I mean it was even stated in the book that when he touches something it becomes whatever state he is in.

"Now that I wore the pass, it would be seen by anyone who saw me; everything Tod holds is only as visible as he is at the time."

Hmm yea, what's up with that? I guess the idea of him being able to just take anyone anywhere would have completely taking away most of the story with Kaylee learning having to cross in to the Netherworld and well, just the amount of driving that seemed to consume the story. It's whatever I guess. Just something that will continue to bother me in the future. Maybe he can do that and just doesn't know it yet?

Another thing that annoyed me was the fact that Kaylee and Nash had, I think, 3 make out sessions and each one interrupted ubruptly. Really? The chances of that? Not to mention, every time they do make out, Kaylee starts thinking about rather or not Nash really likes her and that it might just be because they are of the same "species". Of course she pushes it out of her head... Until next time. If you are that worried about the relationship you are in, you need to talk about it, and not just ignore it. I'm not real thrilled with them as a couple anyway. I mean, I love them together but I'm not liking how they are written. I'm not really feeling the kind of chemistry that I like to feel between a couple when I read about it.

I've already read a couple spoilers here and there about the next books so I wonder if what's coming up next may actually make this better for me to read or rather or not it will piss me off. I guess it's time to find out...

So heartbreaking! And in some ways, it really seems as if it could be true... Kaylee really stepped up in this story, wanting nothing more than to save a girl just because she thought it was possible to do it, and in the end, with the saving not going the way they had planned, someone was still saved.

Nash is a great guy, and I hope he and Kaylee will stay together - they are really good together. Harmony is a lot more understanding than Aiden, he still irks me somehow - I think it's because he had been absent for so long, and having a 16-year-old is quite different from having a very young child, and he totally hasn't adjusted to that fact at all. Both he and Kaylee need to work on their trust issues, so that they can have a real relationship and help each other out rather than working against each other.

3.5 ma sono buona, decisamente migliore del primo ma Nash continua ad irritarmi, qualcuno lo mandi a casa...

(parliamo di Tod sul finale? #Perfect)

The third book in the 'Soul Screamers' series started out a tad bit slower than the previous two. Slow though it may have started, slow is not how is progressed; after the first quarter of the book the tempo and electricity of 'My Soul to Save' increased dramatically and eclipsed thoughts of doing anything but reading. The reader can almost physically see the relationship between Nash and Kaylee growing, its great, and the author provides just enough heat to keep it interesting and the teen reading audience this series is meant for blushing. I can't wait to read the next book in this series 'My Soul to Keep', meant to be out in June 2010

Summary (Amazon.com)

When Kaylee Cavanaugh screams, someone dies.

So when teen pop star Eden croaks onstage and Kaylee doesn't wail, she knows something is dead wrong. She can't cry for someone who has no soul.

The last thing Kaylee needs right now is to be skipping school, breaking her dad's ironclad curfew and putting her too-hot-to-be-real boyfriend's loyalty to the test. But starry-eyed teens are trading their souls: a flickering lifetime of fame and fortune in exchange for eternity in the Netherworld—a consequence they can't possibly understand.

Kaylee can't let that happen, even if trying to save their souls means putting her own at risk….

Plot

I wasn’t a fan of the plot in this addition to Rachel’s Soul Screamers series. I liked that we saw more of Tod but I was not a fan of the two new characters.

The plot advanced well and was written just fine but the installment just went somewhere I wasn’t expecting. Teen singers selling their souls to demons? I think it’s a great topic for teeny bopper teens but I just wasn’t thrilled enough by it.

Setting

As always Rachel excels at setting an awesome scene. I love when Kaylee, Tod, and Nash cross over to the “other world”. That place was just awesome! Want more!

Writing

I’m a HUGE Rachel Vincent fan. She doesn’t disappoint with her writing style in this installment. I just wasn’t a fan of the overall theme of this one.

There’s a scene written about lasagna that had me splitting seams! It was hilarious! :)

Originality

Soul Screamers. Enough said. :)

The plot was original but again, I wasn’t a huge fan of the teeny bopper soul selling singers. I had higher hopes for Kaylee and Nash. I want them to do something a bit more exciting. I want them to be as action packed as Faythe and Marc in the Shifter series minus the gore that they always seem to find themselves in.

Characters

Addison Page and her sister Reagan are the new characters we meet. Addison has sold her soul via a contract to a music label. Kaylee and Nash put themselves out to help because Addy is Tod’s exgirlfriend, whom he hasn’t gotten over, but he’s not “alive” therefore, unavailable.

I wasn’t a fan of these two new characters. They came with the plot, which you’ve figured out I wasn’t a fan of. They were selfish and spoiled. I didn’t like them as people. I couldn’t relate to them either. Yes, I’ve wanted something so bad before, but not to the point that I’d sell my freaking soul to get it.

Tod is very vulnerable too. He shows us how alive he still is. I really missed his smart ass comments because he was too worried about Addy.

Passion

Kaylee and Nash are getting steamy! Their relationship is progressing nicely. I totally thought we were going to hit a home run but maybe in the next book. :) Here’s a snippet of Kaylee’s thoughts about Nash.

Nash was just delicious, in a completely unsatisfying way. Unsatisfying, because no matter how closely I pressed myself against him, I always wanted more.

-pg. 193, My Soul To Save (ARC edition) by Rachel Vincent

Overall

I love Rachel. I will continue to read anything the woman writes. I’m just hoping we get more action from the next installment of the Soul Screamers series.
Cover/Title Bonus

My ARC has the original cover, which matches the cover to My Soul to Take but Harlequin Teen changed it to zoom in on Kaylee’s face, which I am NOT a fan of.

This book was way better than the first one!:D
There was a lot more action but things were not as rushed, which was great. I don't like when authors rush things.
The characters are also more well developped, though I still feel like I don't know them.
I don't know what Kaylee wants in her freaking life, I don't know what her father Aiden is up to, I don't know how is her uncle Brendon, I don't know what's going on with Emma, I don't know what Nash is hiding (because I have this idea that he's hiding something). I know close to nothing. o.O
And I am frustrated because I wanted to know more about Tod and, not only didn't I get what I wanted because I'm still in the dark about him, but also I'm pissed because he was a jackass in the end of the book.
*sigh*
But the thing about teens selling their souls in exchange for fame and fortune and the fact that the immediate consequence of that was that tranformation in their eyes was very interesting.
It is really very curious what the author decided to do, giving that the eyes are said to be the windows to the soul. So, the teenagers sold their souls and they would "lose their eyes".
Huumm...
Let's see what happens next.
