What a cute (and sad) exploration of what happens before the princess finds the frog.

This is a version I just re-read. It's a retelling of the The Frog Prince, but don't expect a happy ending.

Just did a reread of this and all I can say is this:
LOVE IS DEAD
SHUT IT DOWN
FUCK EVERYTHING
This book traumatized me when I was 11 and as a 31 year old, I have to say NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

I preferred this attempt by Napoli on a fairy tale retelling to Zel. That's the most positive thing I can say about the book. I'm pretty sure that I would have enjoyed it more had Napoli not insisted on giving "De Fawg Pin" an annoying lisp that lasted through the entire book (or at least his time as a frog). This was a big put off for me. It was a quick, easy read with a bittersweet but appropriate ending.
It's not a bad book. In fact, I think it's an admirable take on the Frog Prince fairy tale story. It failed to make much of an impression on me.

My third grade teacher read this book to us in 1999. Also during reading time on Fridays, the student of the week got to pick a friend and they could listen in the cozy reading chair instead of on the rug. This book was so fun to listen to; Mrs. Greenwood was the besssst.
