This review was originally published at Vampire Book Club.

Larissa Ione brings the slow burn in Chained by Night, and I loved it. While her Demonica books often get dirty quickly, the MoonBound novels are definitely taking on a different romantic tone. And it works.

Much like the first book, we have some category tropes at play. In the case of Chained by Night, it’s a case of mistaken identity alongside an arranged marriage. If you read much historical romance, you may find some interesting choices here. Thanks to the contemporary setting and, you know, vampires, though we don’t have to deal with as much of the impropriety issues there.

Hunter is the leader of the MoonBound Clan of vampires. In order to save two of his own (in the previous novel), he’s agreed to marry the daughter of a rival clan’s leader. Rasha is far from his type. She’s cruel and has beliefs that are the complete opposite of his own. (She’s a big fan of subjugating the weak, for example.) Her twin sister Aylin, however, comes with her to the MoonBound Clan as a decoy against human attacks. She’s one of those her sister considers weak.

Aylin is smart and kind and determined. So, she’s a natural match for Hunter. Too bad marrying her isn’t an option. Rasha wants what’s hers and breaking that treaty will mean war. That doesn’t stop Hunter from spending more and more time with Aylin, and the two end up having to take a mission to save the lives of others. Expect some mega closeness. Sexy closeness.

The chemistry between Aylin and Hunter in Chained by Night was scorching the pages. They both have strong senses of duty and aren’t sure who they can trust. Watching them become closer and open to one another was a great journey. Enough to make me read this 400-page book in a single sitting.

Chained by Night better focuses on the vampires and their lore than the woes of the human side, which was more the focus of Bound by Night. There are still some interesting revelations there—mostly secrets revealed—but the novel is free of having to set the world building and only thrives in the openness to explore its characters.

Be prepared to stay up all night with Chained by Night. You’ll be ready to hear Hunter saying, “mine,” before you know it.

First Thought when Finished: Holy hotness batman! Chained by Night by Larissa Ione ranks in the top 3 books by her that I have read.

Story Thoughts: OMG I love where this series is heading or at least where I think it is heading. With Larissa she could be hooking me left and then sending me right. She is sneaky like that! However, what I really love is all the Native American heritage tie-ins this series has. It played such a huge part in Chained by Night. I was just giddy listening to it! The only part that caused the story to be 4.50 instead of 5 I will mention way down below in a spoiler area (so you are warned now not to click on it).

Character Thoughts: HUNTER---no, wait a minute. I have to say the most kick ass character in this story was Alyin. She had one brilliant story arc and never (not for one single moment) did I feel any kind of pity for her. She was strong, smart, and beautifully written. She seriously rocked it! Hunter is HOT. He can wear his loin cloth around anytime he wants too. I won't complain a bit. The fact that he is super alpha, extremely loyal, and unbelievably awesome at leading play a part in his awesomeness too. However, I am just going to stick with loin cloth. Have to say, there are several people I would love to get stories in this series. I looked and no hint at what is coming down the pike. I think that is cruel and unusual punishment for the needy gal that I am! I am hoping Baddon but I am guessing he needs at least another book before he is settle down ready.

Audio Thoughts:
Narrated By Amy Landon / Length: 11 hrs and 40 mins

I thought Amy Landon did a good job with the narration. I think she nailed Alyin and even nailed Rasha. I wish that a guy had done Hunter's voice but she did a pretty good job with his voice too. The pacing was excellent and emotions were spot on!

Final Thoughts: Count down has begun to book 3!

SpoilerSo I wasn't a fan of the heal the cripple part. I get why it was done and she was able to grow in a different way after. Part of what made her a fantastic character was her attitude in spite of her disability so I think there was a missed opportunity there. It wasn't a big deal but did make me *sigh* a little!

ohhh Hunter. I love you. Thats really all I want to say. I didn't think I was going to like this book because of the whole quest thing with the demon. I can't say why but I hate reading about challenges and stuff like that but this one was pretty funny. It helped that Hunter was male perfection.

Hunter is the Leader of the MoonBound Vampire Clan and will do anything to protect his clan. In order to save a clan member from another clan leader’s sword, Hunter agrees to marry his awful daughter, Rasha.

Aylin is Rasha’s twin sister but is nothing like her. While Rasha has been treated like a princess, Aylin has been treated like trash because she was born with a twisted lower leg and her father’s clan does not except anything less than perfect.

Hunter finds himself falling for Aylin instead of Rasha but his loyalty is to his clan. Sometimes, happiness and love are not possible for clan leaders.

I really wanted to hate Rasha in this book and I did but she did have one redeeming quality. Although, she was raised to be cruel and to believe that only the strongest deserve to live, she showed kindness to Aylin at times. She snuck books to Aylin throughout their childhood despite the fact that their father didn’t allow it. Rasha was still awful but I liked that the author didn’t make her totally evil. She was just a product of how she was raised and what she was taught all of her life.

I’m not sure how many books Larissa Ione plans on writing for this series but I hope this will be an ongoing series as opposed to a trilogy because there are some strong background characters who I would love to get to know better. I’m looking forward to the next book.

Larissa Ione is, by far, my favourite paranormal romance writer, with J.R.Ward as a close second, so of course I'll always love everything she writes.

That being said, I admit that Chained by Night is with [b:Sin Undone|7715664|Sin Undone (Demonica, #5)|Larissa Ione|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1344263648s/7715664.jpg|10083611]in my top 3 least favourite books by that author.

I just got tired of all the drama.

There's good drama, like in the first book of this series, [b:Bound by Night|16130410|Bound by Night (MoonBound Clan Vampire, #1)|Larissa Ione|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1363706005s/16130410.jpg|21955497]. Drama that comes from too much emotions and way too many demons to face and all the angst that comes from wanting something and not being able to have it, thanks to said demons.

And then there is the irksome type of drama. Drama that comes from stupid people behaving stupidly, creating stupid angsty situations that could have been avoided in a heartbeat.

And that is the case with this book. The drama here didn't caught my attention and it certainly didn't make my heart hurt. Here I just kept reading and thinking "Fuck me! Will this never end? I'm tired of all the shit that keeps appearing left and right."

Hunter's mating to Rasha aka the queen of whores. Samnult's tests. Rasha and Aylin's father aka the king of motherf*ckers. Tseeveyo and other creep bastards. The leg. Hunter not willing to flip Rasha the bird sooner. Rasha being a stupid bitch. AND SO ON.

Really, just enough! That drama wasn't well executed and I was a bit disappointed.

But I don't even care about that, because in all honesty, I didn't care that much about Hunter or Aylin. I guess they make sense, since she needed someone to give her strength and to want her as she was and he needed someone to love and who loved him back.

However, I couldn't feel the love between them. I don't know. I guess there was just too much outside crap getting in the way, for me to truly feel the bond between them.

I'm not bothered, though, giving that I never cared all that much for Hunter. I'm much more excited for Myne's book, which I'm expecting to be the next one.

I only hope that Rasha is not his lady love. I would have a major breakdown, for sure. I'm hoping it's Sabbat, the human bounty hunter. Wouldn't that be hell of interesting?

5 + Stars!
Minor Spoilers!

I waited about a year for this book and boy, was it worth the wait!! I loved the story and the characters! I love how Ione went more in-depth with the vampire lore. She always has a way of weaving a story.
Hunter was such a great male lead, he was a strong man but who also had a soft spot for his clan and for Aylin. Aylin was such a strong female lead who did not let her leg hinder her or make her give up. She fought, she was a fighter until the end! I loved this book as well as the first one! Larissa Ione wins again for me!

“Thank you, Aylin,” he whispered in her ear.
“For what?”
“For saving my life.”
“You’ve already thanked me.”
“For bringing me back from the dead, yes. But not for saving me. I was headed down a path that wouldn’t lead anywhere. Then Rasha happened, and if I’d mated with her, my path would have turned… ugly. You did more than bring me back from the dead, Aylin. You resurrected me.”

CHAINED BY NIGHT is the second book in the MoonBound Clan Vampire series by Larissa Ione. It follows the romance between the MoonBound leader Hunter and the daughter of a rival clan's leader, Ailyn. We met them both in BOUND BY NIGHT, so we know a little bit about them and why they're thrown together in book 2 before jumping in, so if you have not already read book 1, I would do so.

Ailyn has been treated like trash and told she was weak and useless for as long as she remembers. She has been 'sold' by her father to a horrible leader that has multiple mates and a taste for very young girls. She has big dreams of escaping the life that awaits her but before that can happen she must accompany her twin sister Rasha who is to be mated to Hunter. I won't rehash the whole situation that brought along the need for Hunter to mate with Rasha, but he in no way wants this match. He's willing to take one for the team (meaning the good of his clan).

The attraction between Ailyn and Hunter is apparent from the time they meet. They both know nothing can happen between them but circumstances make it very hard to stay away from each other. I enjoyed watching them fall in love and overcome pretty dire situations.

There are a lot of surprises in CHAINED BY NIGHT. There seems to be a lot of misconceptions involving just about everyone in the book. You will learn something new about both the main characters and quite a few supporting ones by the end.

In case you're wondering, we do get to see Nicole and Riker in CHAINED BY NIGHT. Not a lot of time has passed since BOUND BY NIGHT, so Nicole is still newly pregnant and working on a way to make it safer to deliver their baby. I have a feeling I know who will be the next couple in book 3 but I won't reveal who. I wouldn't want to give anything away before you read book 2. I am very interested to see now their relationship would come together though, so I am excited to see if my feelings are right.
