It’s hard to put into words how I feel about this book. It is sweet and sad but also horrific and terrible. History, unfortunately, is too often told by victors. I learned so much about Palestine and the Palestinian people. I am so grateful to Amiry for telling this story.
Graphic: Death, Genocide, and War
Moderate: Abandonment
Minor: Rape

This is the first book I have read that takes place in Palestine during the 1948 conflict. The way that Amiry writes these characters, the tragedies that befall them, and ties it into her own experience as a child of Palestine is seriously moving. I picked this up and finished within 24 hours.
Graphic: Child death, Cursing, Death, Genocide, Gun violence, Islamophobia, Grief, Death of parent, Murder, Abandonment, Colonisation, War, and Classism
Moderate: Rape
