While reading this all I could think of was "wow he is getting laid an awful lot." It was an interesting read and the first novel I've read by Mr. Bukowski. It was fun to read how a man who went from not getting very many women to having young beautiful girls come knocking on his door acted. I look forward to reading more of Mr. Bukowski's work.

Monotony, monotony, misogyny. I mean. This book is well written and funny and all that, but it really IS just too much of the same thing over and over. I don’t find ejaculation accounting especially enthralling as fiction. Man can turn a phrase, but I expected more.

This is a rarity, but I pretty entirely agree with like, all of the 20 or so reviews I read. I dig how it covers the lameness of life, and the premiais as per the official summary totally calls to me... But yeah it gets boring and repetice and when I got a new load of books, I quit-- probably around 30 pages before the end

Also, not covered in the reviews I read, I mostly dig the female lead , particularly with one sentence which begins "I'll take this one" and nvolves pee ( it was some months ago, so this ks as per my memory)

For a semi-autobiographical novel, it's pretty raw - to say the least. Most people would throw this away as plain, bland misogynistic erotica. I know I would have, if I read this 3 years ago. But the interesting thing is how many women tolerated the apathy, objectification and sadism. It's as if they couldn't love anyone who was gentle, kind or considerate.

Obviously not all women are like this. And not all men are like the protagonist. Yet it's interesting how many people do sub-consciously fall into similar relationships and end up frustrated, angry, sad and yet begging for more.
