The PREY series continues to get better and better. This time, Lucas Davenport is after a familiar foe, but the locale has changed from Minneapolis to New York, and there's a subplot about corruption in the police force.

Sandford's writing really takes a leap forward with this book, as he skillfully juggles two plots, and his characters start to seem more well-rounded. There's still a good amount of suspense and intrigue, and a few of the plot twists really caught me off-guard.

A nice page-turner, and a welcome addition to the series. I'll be reading more!

I should really read all the books in this series in a binge. I haven't read a Davenport novel in some time. I love them. I think Michael Connelly's Bosch is my favorite book cop, but Davenport is almost too close to call. Excellent story and characters. You could read this book without reading any before it, but why? I have the whole collection and I will finish it!

Another exciting and awesome Davenport novel. These have become sort of a “comfort” read to me, although there’s nothing comfortable about them because they are so brutal.

If this series doesn't improve with the next book, I'm going to have to drop it. The Dr. wasn't my favorite part of the previous book, and certainly didn't improve this one. He is evil and has his methods, but they don't excite me as a reader. Davenport is listless here and the love interest is also boring and tried.

Best part was that it wasn't that long or time consuming.

I'd decided to not read this one the first time through the series because it takes place in New York and I didn't care for the Lily character. That was a mistake, this was a great book. Not my favorite because it doesn't take place in Minnesota, but still a great read.

Sandfort does a good job, I think, of getting into the mind of an insane man. He does well enough with the other characters as well. There wee some intense interpersonal dynamics. Some really good twists and turns. Some unexpected revelations in the end that maybe I should have seen coming.

This is just gross. The criminals/crime are gross, the relationships are gross, the personal and professional habits of the cops are gross. The whole thing.

And Jennifer--dear lord, woman, he shoved you up against a wall. Walk away and never look back.
