The lead in that is chapter 1 seemed very cumbersome and overly orchestrated the first time I read it. The monster that is created of the reclusive Tom Leyton is reminiscent of Boo Radley, but nowhere near as well achieved. However, as this novel progresses the recurring images of monsters and running from who we are and what we have done becomes evident. The symbol of the silkworms also takes on new, more sophisticated meaning. The threads of the story are woven together well, and the book becomes more absorbing the more you read. As a story of redemption and faith this is quite a powerful read and has some very touching moments.

I read this book for school and a lot of people in our class were skeptical towards it, but I actually quite enjoyed it. It's not a book that's going to be memorable or that I would re-read, but it was an enjoyable story.
I really like the character growth throughout this novel. Seeing how the opinions are formed by side characters telling Joseph and the reader what Tom Leyton is really like. Then airing skeletons in each of the characters closets, to see why they act the way they do and how they got their opinions.

Had to read this for my English class and I hated it at first but the story is very well done. The novel makes you question your core values and makes you wish you had a friendship like theirs

I read this because the boy I'm tutoring is studying it at school. An enjoyable read that deals sensitively with some pretty heavy subject matter, and has some nice use of metaphor.

Ok, seriously, most boring book EVER.
i think i may have liked Twilight more... wait, no, i don't know. It was pretty boring. But then Twilight sucked...
Anyway this book was basically:
Boy is a loner
boy meets neighbours brother loner (only its sadder because he's like fifty something)
silkworms
the two become friends because of the silkworms (awww, not)
man says "MIRACLES SUCK"
boy believes
boys blames man
ANNNNNNNNND THE END after some more stuff
Ok, this book is quite sad and moving, but honestly only because i had NOTHING else to read...
so yeah :D
death death death depression and sadness.
YAY! what a cheerful book1

This book was very interesting and I liked it because we got to see the characters grow and change as person.
