[originally read in high school] this was another book that felt like looking in a mirror. i related so much to the main character's plight: mental health struggles, going to a difficult high school, no friends, finding solace in the struggles of others, and desperately searching for the will to live. an inspiring, but tragic, story that i recommend to everyone who has ever felt like they've finally hit rock bottom and need some light.

this book is quite different from the genre i usually read, because there wasn't much romance in it, but i actually found that i really enjoyed the story. even though it's about quite a depressing topic, a teen boy in a mental hospital after he attempted suicide, ned vizzini's (rest in peace) writing makes it feel less heavy. the characters are so-so, but still a good book. didn't like the movie much though
