I was ready to give this 4 stars which is 1 star more than I gave the first book, but then I got to the last third of the book and I almost wanted to DNF it.

Between the first book and this book, I’ve learned that “quirky” small town rom cons are just not for me. But I was enjoying this book more than the first because it seemed like Joy, the grumpiest of the Levine sisters, had that awareness that this town was way too quirky, corny, and cheesy for both of our likings.

I like Joy and Jacob’s relationship. I think they’re really cute. But that’s honestly the only thing I liked. I don’t like how the town, and especially Joy’s mom, are ALWAYS meddling. Like I get it, it’s a cute, quirky town where everyone is family and we’re just looking for your best interests…but damn. I would honestly hate living there if everyone not only knew my business, but tried to DO something about it.

What really tipped me over the edge and to the point of making this heated review, were the things in the last third of the book that Joy forgave waaaayyyyy too easily in my opinion. There was a point where she caught her own mother leaving her house stealing her birth control pills. And to make it worse, the mom had her friend keeping guard and the dad in the getaway car. Was this scene supposed to be “cute” because they want grandkids now that Joy and Jacob are together? I didn’t think so. Joy had made it pretty clear that she didn’t want to stay in the town, she didn’t want to get married, and she definitely wasn’t ready for a baby. You’re really going to baby trap her? She’s way more forgiving because if it were me, I would disown my family for pulling something like that. I was already annoyed at all the meddling this town does, but that tipped me over the edge and caused me to explode especially as someone who wants to stay child free for the foreseeable future.

It doesn’t help that literally the next scene, Jacob lies by omission to Joy to get her to move in with him. Does everything work out in the end? Yeah, BUT STILL. Joy is way too forgiving because I would’ve held that anger for a while before letting it go.

Overall, I haven’t enjoyed my experience with this series. I really don’t want to read the next book, but I know it’s about Grace and Luke and the author was HEAVY in alluding their story that I’m just super curious about it. So I guess we’ll see.

Sorry for the rant. I’m normally not this harsh. This book (and series as a whole) just made me feel a certain way and it’s not necessarily great.

This book was fantastic!
I really enjoyed book 1 and the story of Alec and Hope, but hot dang did Jacob just steal my heart.

Joy is a black cat with really good reason. Her first love runs away with her sister and her 2nd well you’ll find out…
Jacob gosh he’s the golden retriever, hype man we all need in our life’s. With such a dirty mouth to go with it!

I loved the story of these two. The overlapping time line with book one was fun, and see tid bits of what’s to come with grace and grumpy gill luke!

Loved it so much ❤️

I absolutely adored The Romance is Dead, so when I was able to receive an ARC from Daisy, I was so excited!
Joy is the grumpy sister and Jacob is the golden retriever that fell for her instantly. I love it when a hero knows what he wants and goes for it! The wacky town kept up its antics and the rubber duck jokes were in full swing! There was no third act breakup and I was so happy for Joy and Jacob ❤️

I can’t wait for Grace’s story! I highly recommend both books! Pick this up when it releases!

Tropes:

~ Boy obsessed

~ small town

~ fake engagement

~ one night stand - to lovers

~ no 3rd act breakup

~ Small beach town

~ Curvy FMC

~ Dual pov

~ reverse Grumpy X Sunshine

This book was very fun, and I loved the way this man was unbelievably obsessed with her, it had me grinning from ear to ear while reading, he never gave up on her, no matter how hard she tried running or pushing away

(As a fellow girl with trust issues, it was so nice to see a MMC NEVER give up on the FMC)

Jacob and Joy meet at a bar, and have an immediate connection, and end the night off with a one night stand.

When she wakes up the next morning, she flees, she just ended a relationship that ended terribly, with a betrayal, and the last thing she needs is a relationship…

But then she starts seeing Jacob everywhere in this little town, and he can’t stay away from her, he’s obsessed and head over heels, and won’t give up on her.

Their relationship was absolutely adorable, I just love me a golden retriever man (especially since I’m unfortunately the grump, so it’s fun to see a fmc like me) and a man absolutely loving her for those qualities.

The only things I didn’t like about the book was her mom…that lady needs jail time for the amount of stuff she pulled or tried to do…absolutely gross in my opinion
